Result
The overall objective of the proposed contribution is: "Women and men in Ethiopia access independent journalism, contributing to a democratic, sustainable and peaceful society". The specific objective is to "Strengthen the sustainability and capacity of key media actors in Ethiopia to reduce polarisation, improve safety for journalists, bridge the gap between the newsroom and the classroom and and increase gender equality and diversity to promote and independent and viable, democratic media sector." In order for the impact (objective of the contribution) to occur, the programme plans for the following five outcomes to be achieved: • Outcome 1: Media Education Improved quality of education in journalism schools with educators who have increased skills in teaching practical journalism with a strong gender-sensitive perspective and are better connected with the Ethiopian media industry. • Outcome 2: Media Professionalism Community radios and other media outlets have strengthened their professional skills and abilities to serve the information needs of diverse audiences in a viable and sustainable way. • Outcome 3: Media Inclusion Increased capacity for selected media partners to address gender equality, inclusion and youth engagement to contribute to a more peaceful and inclusive society. • Outcome 4: Media Freedom and Safety Media and civil society organisation (CSO) partners establish and run a safety mechanism responsible to needs of all genders, and protect and strengthen a conducive operational space for media workers. • Outcome 5: Capacity Building Targeted partners have become stronger and more resilient to implement their work and mandate in a more sustainable way.
