Progress on Results/Activities May 2023 to March 2024: Activities supported during the May 2023 to March 2024 period, the focus of the TF activities supported Tanzania Rural Electrification Expansion Program (TREEP) and Zanzibar Energy Sector Transformation and Access Project (ZESTA) implementation during this period and included the following: (i) Renewable Energy (RE), Climate Change: under this thematic area the National RE Strategy and Roadmap and VRE integration Study, Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) integration study, Results Based Financing Facilities (RBF) to Support Solar Home Systems (SHS) and Clean Cooking (CC), Support for the design of Solar PV and BESS in Zanzibar were undertaken. (ii) Energy Efficiency and DemandSide Management: under this thematic area the Zanzibar Energy Efficiency Strategy and Capacity Building was drafted. The ZESTA project also supports the preparation of an Energy Efficiency (EE) Strategy for Zanzibar. The EE strategy has been drafted and is currently under review it is expected to be finalized by June 2024. (iii) Clean Cooking under the TREEP AF, the Bank is supporting the procurement by MOE of a Clean Cooking Baseline study. The study will serve as a benchmark for assessing and promoting the transition to cleaner and more sustainable cooking solutions in the country. Baseline data and information collected will be the basis for directing and guiding the implementation of the National Clean Cooking Strategy. Through SIDA support the Bank provided technical experts have been able to provide critical insights into the design of the TOR for this activity. The team is working closely with REA and the Ministry of Energy to further define the TA priorities of the GOT to implement the CC RBF and the Clean Cooking Energy Action Plan (CEAP). The TA program is likely to focus on enhancing the enabling environment for the clean cooking sector development. Crosscutting impact indicators (to measure the TOC development objectives): - Generation Capacity of Renewable Energy Expected to be installed (utility scale and distributed resources), and Metric Tons of CO2 Emissions expected to b reduced per year. Outcome indicators: - Renewable Energy and Climate Change: Government adopts policies and plans to support major scaleup of renewable energy. Stimulation of public and private investment in Renewable Energy and ancillary infrastructure - Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management: Government adopts policies and plans to accelerate Energy Efficiency - Clean Cooking: Improvement in the enabling environment for clean cooking - Gender and Productive Uses of Electricity: Increased share of female employees, leaders, entrepreneurs and consumers in the energy sector.
