Result
Early Action to Climate Change: Air Pollution in Tbilisi Status: Delivered Key Outcomes: Report launched in March 2024 and widely disseminated. Recommendations integrated into the governments air pollution reduction plan for Tbilisi. Monitoring Household Wellbeing: Listening to Georgia Survey Status: Ongoing Key Progress: Fieldwork underway; innovative sampling frame developed. World Bank leveraged funds to conduct a similar survey in Armenia for South Caucasus policy insights. Baseline fieldwork delayed due to recent events, expected completion in January 2025. Fiscal and Social Policy Distributional Effects Status: Ongoing Key Progress: Report finalized, recommendations informed the Public Finance Review for Georgia. Report launch planned for February 2025. Delivered technical assistance and tools to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and other ministries. CEQ tool and operational manual in Georgian are being finalized for use in budgetary planning. Impact of Energy and Water Tariffs on Vulnerable Populations Status: Ongoing Key Progress: Energy poverty profile prepared. Analysis informs World Bank energy projects and Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission's (GNERC) tariff decisions. GNERC plans to integrate findings into the tariff formula's social component. Labor Force Informality Note Status: Ongoing Key Progress: Under quality review; finalization expected early 2025. Examines drivers of labor informality using Labor Force Survey (LFS) data. Dissemination Activities Status: Ongoing Key Activities: Regular communication with government and development partners. Monthly open lectures in Tbilisi and regions. Includes round tables, media coverage, infographics, and presentations. Regional Poverty and Poverty Mapping Status: Pending Key Condition: Will commence upon availability of 2024 Census data.
The aim of the intervention is to provide analyses and advisory support to further Georgia's reform agenda. Planned activities sort under the World Bank's Country Partnership Framework for Georgia (CPF), which has been coordinated together with the Georgian government. Suggested activities include, but are not limited to, (1) employment and labor markets, (2) fiscal and macroeconomic impact, (3) green growth and climate change, (4) COVID-19 impact and recovery on poor and vulnerable populations, and (5) gender equity and enhancement of female labor force participation.
