Also in the area of advocacy, NAR has increased its work with other CSOs throgh, for example, consortiums on different thematic advocacy. Advancing advocacy efforts. NAR has strengthened its position and influence in promoting democratic values and civic space Rwanda. This is particularly the case in advocating for effective citizen participation in the governance sector, and most recently connected to the Sector Strategic Plan development in the framework of the upcoming new National Plan for Transformation II, where NAR has been instrumental in ensuring commitments to improve citizen participation mechanisms. In the past year, NAR has increasinly pushed some boundaries, for example by organising a two-day conference on democracy in Rwanda and by being in the forefront of the civil society advocacy to influence the new NGO law at the Parliament. Building of institutional capacity. NAR has made investments in building the capacity of its organization, strengthening financial management and developing and applying tools for sub-granting, and not least by being able to recruit qualified personnel for key functions. Detailed results and progress in the different programme pillars can be found in the Annual Report 2023.
The objective of the intervention is (1) to contribute to NAR's mission as per its Strategic Plan 2021-25 to engage society to embrace sustainable peace and social justice; (2) to support NAR's organisational development as a democratic change agent and development actor in its own right, and (3) contribute to the Embassy's and Sida's learning on direct and core support to civil society organisations. The objectives under each Strategic Area in turn contribute to NAR's mission. These objectives are: - To empower citizens with non-violent means of resolving conflict, build trust and promote trauma healing and genocide prevention - To promote participatory and inclusive decision-making processes and advance rights-based approaches - To increase the capacity of the youth to become peace agents, improve their livelihoods, advocate for their rights and those of the vulnerable populations - To build strategic partnerships for policy engagement and advocacy - To become an established think tank through quality research
