The main achievements in the first year of implementation was the setting up of radio production studio for ALICOR, and the recruitment, establishment, and training of the ALICOR secretariat. ALICOR has produced 11 programmes which have been shared with their members across the country. ALICOR's first reoccurring programme is "Citizens' Agenda" which is a current affairs programme combining urban and rural news and topics. In addition, they have also produced the programme "Elections Today" to provide information about the 2023 elections. Extensive efforts have also gone in to strengthen ALICOR's organisational capacities, after addressing capacity gaps, ALICOR and Internews have now begun developing a three-year strategic plan. 15 community reporters have been trained and provided with smart phones, mini recorders, and cash to enable the gathering, filing and broadcasting of produced contents. This hade made it possible for the reporters to provide the ALICOR studio with local content and news reporting.
The main goal of this project is to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of a network of Liberian community radios in serving as a conduit for citizen voices and government response, through two intertwined objectives: 1) Increase the quantity, quality and reach of community radio content on critical issues through content syndication and information sharing network 2) Improve management, organisational capacity and financial sustainability of ALICOR and community radio stations This is proposed to be achieved by Internews supporting ALICOR to set up and manage a multimedia production center with ALICOR staff trained by Internews in multimedia content production. The facility will be utilized to carry out core activities under this project.
