Peace Now and its Settlement watch has been able to document and raise awareness around the policies facilitating illegal settlements in the West Bank and has documented their development. Peace Now has used data and analysis produced by the Settlement Watch to achieve extensive national and international media coverage of this issue, thereby delivering on the program's objectives to inform and influence the Israeli public, decision makers and international community.
Over arching objective: - Limit settlement activity in the West Bank, which violates Palestinian human rights, international law and which is intended to prevent the possibility for a two-state solution. - Increase the likelihood of the emergence of a Palestinian state by limiting the development of the major obstacle to this process - the settlements. Project outcomes are: 1. Through informing the Israeli public about settlement activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and raising awareness of impact of settlement-related activities on democratic values the public develops a more accurate understanding of the ongoing problematics of the settlement project and its crucial role in perpetuating the occupation. 2. Through influencing Israeli office-holders to change their positions regarding settlement activity based on Peace Now's findings and analysis, legal precedents, verdicts, or policy changes can be utilized to challenge settlement activity. 3. Through influencing the international community, increase international pressure to halt settlement activity incentivises the Israeli government to change its calculus.
