2024 marks the second year of implementation of Women's Livelihood Bond no.5. As of June 2024, the lending under the bond guaranteed by Sida has achieved the following notable results: ~47,845 women from low-income communities were equipped to combat poverty through financial inclusion. ~3,176 women smallholder farmers were supported with agricultural loans to maintain and improve their yields, and combat growing pressures due to climate change. ~13,220 women and girls experienced improved health outcomes including reduced risk of exposure to waterborne communicable diseases. ~43,076 young women and girls benefited from financial support to stay longer in school. ~51,445 women were empowered to sustain their livelihoods and better combat gender-based discrimination, advancing gender equality through financial inclusion. ~6,861 women benefited from improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities, saving ~2 hours per day and improving their productivity. ~284 women and girls were provided access to clean and reliable energy sources. ~44,584 women were able to establish and maintain stable sources of income, including micro-entrepreneurs who were provided with affordable credit to sustain their businesses and women jobholders provided with decent employment. ~3,384 women benefited from improved mobility and safety outcomes through access to affordable motor leasing and housing loans. ~10,321 women empowered to build climate resilience through access to clean energy (mitigation) and access to water or sustainable agricultural inputs (adaptation). The Embassies of Sweden in Bangkok and Dhaka also participated in the Orange Forum arranged by IIX in Singapore in December 2024. The forum was a testament to IIX's ambition and ability to gather a range of stakeholders and mobilize action for financial inclusion and women's economic empowerment.
The objective of IIX support is (1) to build gender equality and support the economic empowerment of underserved women (defined as women from low-income, rural, minority, or otherwise economically disadvantaged families or communities) from the target countries (India, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines) (2) empower women to create broader positive social and environmental impact including improving multigenerational impact (on dependent female beneficiaries), strengthening the women, peace and security agenda, and improving resilience to environmental shocks and stresses and (3) to advancing the broader gender lens investment movement and catalyze the sustainable finance ecosystem.
