The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) is a broad alliance of civil society actors that are part of the struggle for food sovereignty and agroecology in Africa. Its members represent smallholder farmers, pastoralists, hunter/gatherers, indigenous peoples, faith-based institutions, and environmentalists from across Africa. It is a network of networks and currently with 35 active members. AFSA has a secretariat office in Kampala, Uganda, and a West Africa liaison office in Thies, Senegal. AFSA is a growing voice on the continent for sensible, sustainable, just, regenerative, and healthy food systems. AFSA`s intervention aims to influence food policy makers' narratives locally and regionally through advocacy, ensuring that food policies are geared towards the health and well-being of African citizens. The intervention leverages on previous activities bringing all AFSA's work together and shifts the conversation away from food production to the systemic issue of a healthy and sustainable diet. The food policy work brings all the pieces together in terms of land, seed, climate, and other citizen-related issues with a firm understanding of Farmer Managed Seed Systems (FMSS) as a foundation to justify diversity as a source of resilience. The overall objective of the proposed initiative is to produce a food policy for Africa, which can serve as a framework for member countries, and suggest a governance structure to make it practical. The strategy to achieve this objective include mobilizing national food actors to influence their government to produce a national food policy and advocate for an African Food Policy and use the process and outcomes to facilitate citizens' engagement in local, national, and regional food system-related issues. It is assessed that AFSA's intervention is regional in scope that utilizes country-level initiatives and influence to leverage impact at scale across various other countries other than the selected nine African countries.

Result
The purpose of Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa's (AFSA's) three-year intervention is to inspire African citizens to demand and consume healthy and culturally appropriate food backed by favorable policies. It is assessed that AFSA has developed a strategy to influence food policy makers' narratives and public thinking locally and regionally through advocacy and campaign ensuring that food policies are geared towards the health and well-being of African citizens. AFSA's contribution has four specific objectives 1) Advocate for developing and implementing regional and national policies that promote the production and consumption of healthy foods, especially indigenous African diets. 2) Create a cohesive and influential civil society coalition committed to behavioral and policy change regarding healthy food consumption. 3) Influence citizens' attitudes toward consuming healthy African foods and diets. 4) Establish mechanisms for regular feedback from the community and stakeholders to assess the impact of advocacy efforts and ensure alignment with the primary objective.
