The African Union Liaison Offices (AULO) enables the AU to maintain an effective presence on the ground and facilitates the AU to play an important role within conflict prevention and management, with the ultimate purpose of promoting peace, security and stability on the continent. Overall, the program is believed to have contributed positively to human security through AU presence in a number of key contexts. For example, offices in Mali, CAR, Burundi, Madagascar and Sudan contributed positively in their respective countries as crises unfolded, including supporting peace agreements, implementation of peace agreements and election observation. The AULO in CAR also contributed to strengthening of the technical and institutional capacities of the members and staff of the National Commission for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in CAR to contribute to the promotion of human rights and to the process of dialogue and reconciliation.
To contribute to the fulfilment of the African Union's mandate relating to the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in Africa.
