AHRF - HR in Syria - Enhancing nascent actors

This project will focus on target local emerging actors to provide them with training on Human Rights and project planning. The focus is to provide them with knowledge in human rights instruments and institutional structures, as well as fostering long-term commitments to human rights among emerging duty bearers. The project grant is for 18 months for 4 850 000. The aim of the strategy for the Middle East and North Africa are: stronger democracy and greater respect for human rights; and sustainable development that improves conditions for peace, stability and freedom in the region. The AHRF project aims at contributing to the enhancement of democratic local governance structures as well as promoting a civil society by bringing in the notion of Human Right based programming in Syria. Thus the project is expected to contribute to the strategy and sector objectives. By the end of the project, the Fund expects that the targeted actors in Syria will have a better capacity to plan, organize, and implement human rights projects. In addition, the project will strengthen the targeted actors’ knowledge of human rights instruments and project implementation as well as providing the targeted Local Citizens’ Committees and other duty bearers with a better understanding of how to embed human rights in their work.
