Result
The implemented activities contributed to the expected results as well as the overall objective of the programme. The activities and interventions were implemented as planned with few challenges and variations. The following indicates the progress in obtaining the expected results and the contribution of each partner in this process:Result 1: Cultural heritage preservation mainstreamed and aligned with National prioritiesThe following activities are successfully implemented: • The development of by laws to enable the implementation of the Palestinian Legislation on Tangible Cultural Heritage. UNESCO continued providing technical and financial support for the development of 4 out of 8 by laws and procedural instructions stipulated in the tangible heritage Decree Law to enable its proper implementation. These by Laws and instructions are:1. By Laws on the organization of the museums’ sector2. By Laws on survey and excavation3. By Laws on protection, restoration and maintenance of movable and immovable heritage4. Instructions for the inventory process and mechanism. The 4 draft by laws were finalized along with their policy directives. The other 4 by laws are awaiting consultations with civil society organizations and Academic institutions. Another achievement of a Co-financing between Sweden through the current ongoing agreement and UNESCO was UNESCO finalizing and updating the inventory of cultural heritage sites in the Gaza Strip through its Regular Programme in support of the effective implementation of the UNESCO 1972 Convention in Palestine. This activity was implemented in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, civil society and national experts.The inventory recorded 246 historic buildings in addition to another 22 buildings with significant cultural value. Furthermore, it recorded 70 archaeological sites which were accessible to the team. Result 2: Cultural heritage further preserved, adapted to provide social services and contributed to the enhancement of the socio-economic situation. The overall achievements by the 4CHOs concerning this result is summarized in the following table and chart: Cultural heritage further preserved (13 planned, 8 completed, and 5 in progress): 1. CCHP 3 planned 3 completed 2. RIWAQ 4 planned 2 completed 2 in progress 3.HRC 4 planned 3 completed 1 in progress 4. OCJRP 2 planned 2 in progress. Result 3: Knowledge and practical technical skills of architects, young professionals on cultural heritage preservation developed as well as awareness of people and local communities on the value of cultural heritage increased. The capacity development component of the programme continued through theoretical trainings, internships and on the-Job training, which contributed to enhance the technical capacities of architects, engineers, contractors and workers in the field of cultural heritage preservation. The importance of transferring the know-how in the field of cultural heritage preservation is acknowledged by all the partners as a sustainable practice that has a positive impact on the historic and heritage environment revitalization. During the reporting period in Palestine, 13 architects and engineers have been trained.
