ITP 307 Statistics for Gender Equality

Statistics Sweden (SCB) has many years of experience in working bilaterally with capacity development in gender equality statistics in developing countries. SCB is now proposing a global capacity development programme, a so-called International Training Programme (ITP), on gender equality statistics. One argument for supporting capacity development in gender equality statistics is that sex-disaggregated statistics are a basic prerequisite for evidence-based information in decision-making, planning and follow-up nationally as well as globally in the work on gender equality. Gender equality statistics are also a prerequisite for citizens to be able to effectively demand responsibility and work to have their rights met. SCB's unique expertise in statistics and gender equality statistics, their unique role and experience as an authority, their ability to conduct training and their broad network of contacts make them strategic implementers of an ITP on gender equality statistics for Sida's partner countries. There is a great need and demand for capacity development in gender equality statistics in low- and middle-income countries. The effort fits well into Sida's bilateral and regional strategies, as well as the strategy for capacity development and exchanges.
