Resultat
Project achievements during the years 2019-2023 ADRA has reached good results during the implementation of the project, especially considering the large and spread out geographical area with many involved actors. The target has been under-served and often fragile areas, some hard-to-reach. - Approximately 131 000 additional people have gotten improved access to water. - Approximately 134 000 people reached by sanitation and hygiene activities. - 4,5 million people reached through awareness creation by mass media on hygiene promotion. Objective 1: Strengthened capacity - Effective government-led (Ministry of Energy and Water Resources) coordination of the WASH sector. - 92 people involved in stakeholder meetings. - 84 water management committee members trained - 28 water operators trained on operation & management of water supply systems. - Five water association workshops held with 100 participants. - 40 laboratory technicians trained on water sampling, testing and analysis. - Five oversight and complaints mechanism workshops held with 102 participants. Objective 2: Access to water - Five new boreholes drilled, equipped into water supply systems. - Rehabilitation of 13 water supply systems, including boreholes & wells. - Construction of three water dams (two new earth dams and rehabilitation of a major dam). - Two water reservoirs (berked) rehabilitated in Puntland. - Approximately 3020 students in schools have access to water through pipeline extension. - Approximately 17 km of pipeline extension made. Objective 3: Sanitation & Hygiene Promotion - Approximately 14 200 people have gotten access to latrines through Community-Led Total Sanitation approach. - 40 communities involved in Community-Led Total Sanitation. - 34 communities certified to avoid open defecation. - Water in Schools approach implemented in 51 schools, benefiting 25 157 students. - 123 teachers trained on the water in schools approach. - 57 trained female coaches in schools trained on menstrual hygiene practices. - 13 schools certified as 3-Star and 38 schools as 2-Star under Water in Schools method. - 5603 adolescent girls provided with menstrual dignity kits. - Eight girls-friendly spaces constructed in schools. - 51 school provided with WASH supplies (cleaning and sanitation tools, soaps & detergents etc). - 45 140 people reached through outreach sanitation campaigns. - Sanitation tools distributed to 40 villages. - 36 global WASH events commemorations organised. Objective 4: Improved health & sanitation - Three solid waste disposal & management sites (dumping sites) constructed. - Two slaughterhouses constructed for the municipal authorities. - Three 3 faecal sludge disposal areas for constructed for municipalities. - 28 water operators trained and provided with basic tools and start-up kits for operation and management of WASH facilities. - Approximately 110 000 people benefit from sanitation service in three municipalities. Objective 5: Somali NGO Consortium - Helped create an enabling environment for the efficient and effective delivery of humanitarian and development assistance. - Greater NGO engagement in strengthening coherence of aid interventions in Somalia. - Somali local civil society empowerment through advancement of the localization agenda. - Working relationships between NGOs and government authorities are stronger and more functional. - Delivering of closing remarks at the COP28 declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery & Peace.
Project objectives: Improved health and environmental conditions by sustained access to WASH services contributing to reduced poverty and improved economic status of Somali people. Outcome 1: Strengthened enabling environment and governance structure supporting delivery of appropriate, equitable and affordable WASH services. Outcome 2: Increased access to sustained, reliable, equitable and affordable safe water through well managed water supply systems in rural, peri-urban areas and urban centres. Outcome 3: Increased access to improved, adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene services in rural, peri-urban and urban areas. The following two objectives were removed for the extension period 2024-2025: Outcome 4: Improved economic performance of local livelihoods reliant on improved access to WASH services Outcome 5: An enabling environment for the efficient and effective delivery of humanitarian and development assistance for all Somali people.
