Main results reported mid 2023 - mid 2024 are found below. Kampala Conference October 2023: Sudanese Women Conference to Influence the Peace Process and Support Coalition Building: UN Women, in collaboration with the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), organized a conference in October 2023 in Kampala. It brought together 40 Sudanese women leaders from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia. The conference resulted in "the Kampala Feminist Declaration" a vital document that articulates a comprehensive feminist peace agenda for Sudan and that is a clear road map for women's participation in peace building efforts. The declaration highlights political participation, Security and Safety, Economic empowerment, Social and cultural discrimination and transitional constitution and legal framework and humanitarian priorities. African Women at the Peace Table: Lessons from Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): Following the conference in Kampala, UN Women supported the participation of two Sudanese in a conversation convened in New York October 2023 held in the margins of the Security Council Open Debate on Women, Peace, and Security. The event resulted in highlighting women´s equal and meaningful participation in formal peace processes, conflict prevention, and peace building to relevant stakeholders in NYC. Open Session of the African Union Peace and Security Council: Women, Peace, and Security: In November 2023, UN Womens work resulted in ensuring that Sudanese women participated in the Open Session of the African Union Peace and the UN Security Council: Women, Peace, and Security. A statement by Sudanese women was presented reflecting on the impact of war on women and girls, as well as the resilience of Sudanese women uniting across regions, age groups, and ethnic backgrounds. GIMAC and Humanitarian Meeting: In February 2024, UN Women ensured that Sudanese women could convey a statement to the discussions of the African leaders during their session in Addis Ababa ahead of the AU 37th Ordinary Session of African leaders. CSW Side Event: UN Womens work resulted in ensuring the participation of two Sudanese women in the CSW side event in New York on March 14th, 2024. Their participation contributed to putting spotlighted the challenges faced by women and girls in Sudan due to conflict. Sudan Women Dialogue Conference, Kampala, Uganda: UN Women supported the "High-Level Dialogue Conference" convened by the AU High-Level Panel on Sudan (HLP-Sudan) and the AU Special Envoy on WPS. The conference, which was held on July 3-4, 2024, brought together women from Sudan with diverse backgrounds to discuss and formulate a unified agenda for lasting peace in Sudan. The conference resulted in a communique and women´s agenda highlighting key issues such as governance, political dialogue, security arrangements, and humanitarian interventions. UN Women facilitated the attendance of at least 60 women physically, with more than 10 women participating virtually from the UN Women Sudan country office. WEE-Peace nexus: The WEE activities target vulnerable women farmers from the host communities to enhance their entrepreneurial capacities in the value chain transformation. 200 women from 200 HHs from the most vulnerable communities in Red Sea state have resulted in ensuring that 600 goats has been distributed (3/family) to enhance their livelihood and the nutritional status of their children and elders. UN Women's implementing partners are preparing to provide women and girls IDPs with grants to enhance their livelihoods and purchase land to construct women's centers to improve women's engagement in the business community. By doing so, the intervention responds to the emergent needs of displaced women and the development needs of settled women. In sum: Sida/Sweden-supported initiatives have been pivotal in advancing Sudanese women´s participation in the peace process, demonstrating the profound impact of investing in women´s leadership. Their active engagement has significantly shaped peace building efforts, integrating crucial priorities such as political participation, security, economic empowerment, and protection from violence. The active participation of Sudanese women in key events has significantly contributed to a more inclusive and sustainable peace process. Their involvement has fostered greater regional solidarity and provided a platform for women's voices to be heard at national and international levels. By championing a feminist peace agenda, Sudanese women have not only influenced peace building efforts but have also laid the foundation for a more equitable and lasting peace in Sudan and the broader region.
Women influencing the course of peace in Sudan: A leadership and economic empowerment nexus The objective has been changed during the programme phase. The objectives and results below relates to the amendment that is currently underway. The objectives reflects the needs as assessed since the way broke out. Outcome 1: A more inclusive, coordinated, and sustainable women movement grounded in nexus of feminism, peace and humanitarianism influences regional and International political/peace processes Output 1.1: Enhanced institutional capacity of womens organizations (civic and political) through strengthen womens leadership, skills, capacity, and knowledge on peace related issues at local, regional, and national levels. Output 1.2: Established platforms for women mediators, negotiators, providing opportunities/resources for their meaningful participation in peace talks and mediation efforts. Output 1.3: Increased inclusive dialogues, forums and engagement that amplify womens voices facilitating their participation in peace process. Outcome 2: Strengthened Community Response to GBV, Communities in Sudan in Gedaref and White Nile states will be better equipped with knowledge and resources to effectively to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV), fostering safer environments and promoting resilience and peace Output 2.1: Create a conducive environment for GBV survivors to come forward for support thereby also increasing the use of GBV referral systems made available by UNFPA. Output 2.2: Women, girls, men and communities are better informed about GBV, women rights and have access to livelihood opportunities. Output 2.3: Local communities, young males, male community leaders and aid field workers better sensitized on the issues around GBV, focusing on human rights, the criminal aspects of GBV and potential judicial consequences
