NDI 2020-2024 Citizen Engagement for Local Government Accountability

NDI has carried out numerous trainings and it hard to assess how these contribute to the overall goals.

Proposed by NDI for three years (2020-2023), the overarching goal of the three-year program is to enhance citizen engagement, and expectations of accountability based on experience, that would renew citizens’ confidence in Mali’s local level institutions. The specific objective  of this intervention is the following: Local governments become more responsive and accountable to citizens. It ambitions to promote citizens’ involvement and participation in local affairs while elected officials would be equipped to provide better services and response to citizens’ demands. The program will intervene in the regions of Mopti and Sikasso, specifically in eight (08) communes. By the end of the intervention, the following results are expected:1. Citizens organize and take action to seek accountability from local government As outputs, NDI will work to make CSOs gain community organizing capacities, actively engage local governments and monitor local government actions and political processes. 2. Local officials actively seek citizen input on decisions and respond to citizen concernsAs outputs, NDI will work to get Local officials understand their roles and responsibilities, and those of citizens, in governance, development and political processes, and gain skills and capacities needed to deliver services more effectively
