In CAR, violence between armed groups and the National Army and its allies has increased. Access has therefore slightly reduced for humanitarian actors due to increased insecurity that prevents free movements. Despite these challenges, PUI supported 12 176 primary curative consultations of children under five in the supported health facilities, which is more than twice as much as the target of 5 083 children. In addition, PUI has reported a 95% recovery rate of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) cases in supported facilities. In Colombia, PUI and its local partner continued providing protection and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services for women and children affected by conflict and migration through both fixed and mobile health clinics to enhance access to services for the most vulnerable groups. Provided services were equally used by Colombians (local population, internally displaced) and Venezuelans (refugees, asylum seekers). In Sudan, PUI is supporting one health facility in Geneina locality (West Darfur) and three health facilities in Al Manaqil locality (Al Jazirah) through the provision of integrated free health, nutrition and psycho social support activities to the host and displaced population in the supported areas. The project has experienced several delays and readjustment of the project due to the insecure situation and ongoing fighting between Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This has resulted in a temporary suspension of operations, the relocation of staff and necessary amendments to the initial project. PUI has continually been able to restart and project activities and reopened their office in Geneina.
This contribution aims to support PUI in selected humanitarian crisis where PUI will implement specific projects and where the organisation has a clear added value to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to crisis affected populations. Sida will support PUI's humanitarian interventions in three different crises in 2023. Sudan (10 MSEK) - PUI proposes a project cantered on providing health and nutrition assistance. The intervention's target area is a destination for many displaced people living in IDP camps and suffering from severe health issues and malnutrition. GBV has been identified as a targeted area in which PUI will provide direct support through health centres as well as community awareness raising. Sida considers PUI to be an important partner in Sudan. The organisation's programmatic focus responds well to the Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan's (HRP) priority humanitarian needs. Sida provides support to PUI with a focus on health and nutrition to Al Geneina and Kereneik in West Darfur. Through PUI's program, existing health system will be supported by providing basic health and nutrition services integrated with psychosocial support (PSS) to vulnerable population groups. Objective: Support the existing health system with provision of essential health and nutrition services integrated with PSS to vulnerable populations in West Darfur, Sudan. Colombia (7 MSEK) - PUI have proposed a 12-month project together with Fundación Halü built upon their current experience to support access and protection of sexual and reproductive health rights of the most vulnerable population, particularly Venezuelan settled migrants and crisis-affected Colombians. The action will focus on Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW), women, children and adolescents in rural and peri-urban communities surrounding Tame, Arauquita and Saravena (Arauca) and Tibú (Norte de Santander). PUI will provide direct access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Mental Health and psychosocial care to the crisis-affected population in Arauca and Tibú, with a focus on recognition and response to the specific risks and vulnerabilities of women and girls, while Fundación Halü, will improve access to mechanisms of prevention and response to SGBV and child violence in Tibú (Norte de Santander) municipality. The partners will seek complementarity and synergy through an integrated intervention based on a community approach in order to strengthen the projects impact. Objective: Increased immediate access to health/mental health services and protection response to target population. Central African Republic (8 MSEK) - PUI proposes a health, nutrition and WASH project that will cover the needs of 27,448 individuals, including 6,681 direct beneficiaries through targeted free care (including 1,098 pregnant women, 834 lactating women and 4,749 children from 0 to 59 months) and 20,767 indirect beneficiaries through the improvement of healthcare provision in the 3 health facilities (Djamassinda, Zoukoutouniala and Bangbali) and the health district hospital of Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture in Ndélé. These health facilities have been targeted in consultation with the local Health District. Objective: Ensure access to quality primary healthcare and to malnutrition treatments for the crisis-affected populations.
