Resultat
The project has had different logical frameworks in 2022, 2023 and 2024 due to the amendments. Below are examples of results achieved throughout the project, during different years, as stated in the final report. THE TOTAL PROJECT PERIOD 2022-2024: Outcome Despite the security and political crisis that Burkina Faso has been going through for several years, and the restriction of spaces for expression, the contribution has made it possible to preserve a place of expression and access to useful information for thousands of Burkinabè. Not formulated as an outcome, but assessed by Sida as a key result of Studio Yafa. Outputs - Total number of productions of radio content on all themes were 4 374 in 5 languages (French, Mooré, Dioula, Fulfuldé and Gulmancema). - Total number of people who spoke in the programmes were 6 178, of whom 4 197 (67.93%) were men, 1 981 (32.06%) women, 3 098 (50.14%) young persons, and 1 053 (17.04%) internally displaced persons (IDPs). - Total number of programmes relocated or organised in camps for IDPs (the monthly Le Grand Forum): 24 - Number of programmes specifically addressing IDP and humanitarian issues: 569 - Total number of collective listenings in IDP camps and number of participants in these listenings: 6 965 listenings were carried out with 213 458 participants, of whom 164 875 (77.24%) were women and 48 583 (22.76%) were men. - Total number of radio stations that received various types of support, including subsidies for income-generating activities: 51 radio stations. STUDIO YAFA AND FASO YAFA 2022-2023 (consolidated): Outcomes: Over 12 million people are estimated to listen to Studio Yafa. 69,5% (77,3% young men/boys, 61,6% young women/girls) of these, i.e. 8 793 964 965 listeners, respond in a baseline survey that they are aware of the radio's public policy programmes transmitted through the Studio Yafa partner radio stations. Further, 54% of young people and women listened to the radio daily, 38% listen to it weekly and 8,1 % listen to it monthly. 78% of IDPs, especially women, interviewed during collective listenings believe that Studio Yafa (Faso Yafa component) provides useful information about their situation. In the endline survey, the result of a similar indicator for IDPs and host communities is an average of 93,84% (c.f below). 90,90% of managers of partner radio stations considered that the collaboration with Studio Yafa met their professionalisation needs. Outputs: - The total number of listeners through partner radios at a point of survey in 2023 were 8 793 964 (out of a population of approximately 22 million). - 1 912 youth and 1 048 women, out of a total of 3 626, were involved in Studio Yafa's programmes. - Studio Yafa has reached a large audience with information through Facebook. As of December 2023, Studio Yafa's Facebook page had 129 000 followers. In 2023, posts on Facebook reached over 12 million people, with 11,8 million minutes of programmes listened to and/or viewed. - 649 IDPs were involved in the productions of Faso Yafa, as e.g. guests in the studio, participants in programmes and interviewees in the weekly shows. - In Faso Yafa, 74 weekly 30-minute programmes per language in 5 languages were produced and broadcast. The themes focused on living together, the resilience of displaced people, the socio-economic empowerment of IDPs, community health, security, gender, social cohesion and peace. - The Yafa studio set up a pool of 90 community coordinators/hubs (relais communitaries) for Faso Yafa, in 21 towns across the country. These were either IDPs or members of host communities from different social categories. 36% were women. They received received training and equipment. - Studio Yafa recruited and had a pool of 61 "special correspondents" at partner radio stations with the background of, amongst others, either being a host or displaced, having at least a primary school certificate, having an interest in radio and being available to contribute. These were specifically focusing on humanitarian journalism. - 9 training courses in 2022 and 2023 for staff with different functions at the partner radios - directors, editors-in-chief, managers, journalists and audiovisual technicians - on themes from revenue generation, to gender and conflict sensitive journalism, fact-checking and editorial management. JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2024 (final year): Outcomes: - The final report states that 100% of a total of 1 126 respondents, surveyed through listening forms filled in by community hubs/coordinators, believe that the Studio Yafa programmes contribute to strengthening social cohesion of populations in the face of the crisis, and 95% of respondents that they contribute to resilience. 99,94% of IDPs and people from host communities believe that the dialogue between them has improved thanks to collective listnenings. Some testimonies were e.g.: "These programs make us aware of peaceful coexistence as a factor of social cohesion", "We really like the programs, it strengthens social cohesion". On the concept of social cohesion, the final report i.a. describes its work on this as developing information and dialogue content that maintain the link between populations, are at the heart of the fracture of the social fabric, and are on living well together. The end-line survey had a direct question if Studio Yafa shows "allowed you to better understand the importance of social cohesion", while others were on e.g. topics such as improved dialogue, discussions with other people, change of perspectives, the understanding of respondents role in conflict prevention, etc. - A focus group discussion and individual questionnaire to 78 listeners showed that all 78 (50% women/50% men) believe that Studio Yafa's programmes contribute to strengthening social cohesion in the face of the crisis in Burkina Faso. The survey also showed that 74/78 (95%) of the respondents believe that they are more resilient thanks to Studio Yafa's information and dialogue programmes, e.g.: "Studio Yafa broadcasts programmes on mechanisms for the prevention and management of inter-community conflicts. This allows for the acceptance of hosts and internally displaced persons. The programs make us very aware of the culture of peace in our society". - Nine (9) radio stations have been empowered through the financing of income-generating activities and coaching for the development of institutional plans. Out of the nine, seven (7) radio stations were at the time of reporting able to generate sources of income not related to news production. Outputs: Results Outcome 1: The Burkinabe population, particularly youth, women and IDPs, is better informed and more resilient through information and dialogue programmes - Studio Yafa produced 40 debates in Ouagadougou, which addressed themes on governance and politics, women entrepreneurship, health, etc. - Studio Yafa produced 980 Yafa Soir/evening programmes (magazines) in 5 languages on several themes and in several localities. - Faso Yafa that focuses on IDPs in three regions and host communities held 8 monthly broadcasts (Le Grand Forum/"the great forum") that reached 510 people. - 175 weekly programmes/magazines were produced in 5 languages on topics such as social cohesion, infrastructure, health, and broadcast on partner radio stations. - Studio Yafa produced 279 articles and videos on various themes. - Studio Yafa managed to broadcast these daily, weekly and monthly magazines on 38 radio partner radio stations as planned. - From January to September 2024, 478 IDPs (234 women/244 men) were involved in the productions through e.g. interviews and reports. - During the 9 months, 2 552 people intervened in the various programs, including 36,56% women and 46,47% young people. - Thematically, 31 programmes (radio, video and debates) covered gender issues such as women's empowerment and menstrual management. - In total, 1 957 collective listening sessions were organised for IDPs and people from host communities in 21 cities in 9 regions of the country, with more than 55 000 people participating (about 65% women). Results Outcome 2: The Burkinabe media sector is strengthened and more professional and is moving towards empowerment through technical support - In July 2024, 7 partner radio stations received on-site coaching. In September 2024, another 9 partner radio stations received the same. - Studio Yafa put together a pool of 25 special correspondents (envoys) that produce certain parts of programmes, conduct interviews and act as scouts for news reports and public broadcasts. - The operation of the community coordinators (relais communautaires), responsible for i.a. the organisation of collective listening and broadcasts with IDPs and host populations, was ensured incl maintenance of equipment. - The supervisor of the relais communautaires had a dialogue with the high commissioner of a province, to present Studio Yafa and its work, which led to the resumption of collective listenings between IDPs and host communities that had previously been banned. Similar meetings were held in two other locations. - The project ensured the functioning of 38 journalists from partner radio stations and their productions in locations often inaccessible to the Studio Yafa team.
The objectives, outcomes, indicators and targets have been revised throughout the project period 2022-2024 due to the changed context and changed funding circumstances: OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES 2022-2023 The objective of Studio Yafa: To contribute to the effective consideration of the social cohesion needs in peace, sustainable, inclusive and equitable development, and the citizenship of populations, especially the youth, women, and IDPs, through the production and dissemination of quality information. Outcomes of Studio Yafa: 1) CSO's accountability actions on public policies are supported through the production and dissemination of quality content focused on the planning sectors of the national development framework (indicators for this outcome were limited from 2022), 2) The Burkinabè population, especially youth, women and IDPs, is better informed and more active in democratic and development processes through information and dialogue programs, and 3) The Burkinabe media sector is strengthened and more professional and more autonomous through training and technical support. The objective of Faso Yafa (added in an amendment by Sida in December 2022): To contribute to humanitarian assistance to save lives and restore the dignity of affected communities - in particular their most vulnerable members - in Burkina Faso within the framework of the triple nexus. Specific outcome of Faso Yafa: Studio Yafa disseminates information useful for internally displaced people, in particular women, in relation to their situation and gives them a space to express themselves OBJECTIVE AND OUTCOMES 2022-2024 The(joint objective of Studio Yafa and Faso Yafa: To contribute to strengthening social cohesion and resilience of populations in the face of the crisis in Burkina Faso through relevant information and dialogue programmes, targeting women, youth and internally displaced persons (IDPs) The revised outcomes were: 1) The Burkinabè population, especially youth, women and IDPs, is better informed and more resilient in democratic and development processes through information and dialogue programs, and 2) The Burkinabe media sector is strengthened and more professional and moving towards empowerment through training and technical support.
