Resultat
Results within Recipient-executed activities In relation to the MozFIP project, the following results are worth highlighting: - Community land delimitation: The final target of 160 communities delimited was achieved. - Planted forest grant scheme: The planted forest area reached an area of 2560 hectares (final target was 2000ha). - Agroforestry Systems: 7195 hectares were successfully achieved in both Zambezia and Cabo Delgado landscapes, surpassing the target of 1500hectares. - Sustainable charcoal production: 200 charcoal producers were trained. Two forest concessions for charcoal production have been approved. The forest inventory and the forest management plans have been finalized. Both concessions amount to an area of ca. 7,675 hectares. The business plan and marketing strategies are being implemented food security for subsistence farmers, while also reducing shifting cultivation and thus pressure on natural forests. Trees can be planted and managed to address domestic and market requirements related to biomass energy, wood, fruit, and other non-timber products while contributing to greater agriculture productivity by enhancing organic matter in the soil and promoting a better ecosystem for agents needed for sustainable production (e.g. pollinator agents). - Forest Operators Evaluation: a new assessment took place in the Nov/ Dec 2021, and is used as a tool to cancel licenses that are not in conformity, preventing deforestation. Results within Bank-executed activities - Capacity building and institutional strengthening of the national sustainability fund - FNDS - contributing to FNDS fulfilling the requirements of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and to its status as Mozambique's National Accredited Agency. - Communities and small-scale private sector entities improved access to markets and alternative income generating activities. Special emphasis was put on youth and women as change agents. - Analytical work improving and informing work of Mozambique's government and other partners' related to intergrated landscapes and community based natural resource management (CBNRM). Results within Covid-19 support (Biofund CIVID Emergency Fund) This support helped ensure the protection of over 13 million hectares of unique biodiversity, representing 63 % of the total protected area network in Mozambique. It also supported temporary job opportunities for community members; support to community groups; and made sure rangers could keep their salaries despite the drastic reductions in nurture-based tourism incomes during the pandemic. In addition to the result achieved, in 2018, the ILM Team was awarded the 2018 World Bank Sustainable Development VPU Team Awards and the Stories of Impact Award within the World Bank Group.
The project's objective is to improve the enabling environment for sustainable forest management and investments in Mozambique, and to support the adoption of sustainable forest and land management practices in targeted landscapes.
